  • I know there is a book out there that magazines say everyone needs to read about building long lasting trails. Does anyone know what it as, where to get it, or that I can borrow for a few days to read before the 3-13 trail building class. I know absolutely nothing in this area and would like to give myself a crash course before class. Hope  everyone got to enjoy the wonderful weather this weekend.

  • IMBA publishes several good books on the subject. This is a good one and the club has a copy....somewhere:

You can also find a lot of the basics on their website.

  • There are also some videos on You Tube that are worth taking a look at.  It is really one video broken up into segments.  It is pretty basic but it hits some good high points .  I have the DVD you can borrow if you would prefer.  Give me a shout.

  • If you come out to Oak Mtn Workweekend the prior weekend to Tannehill, I'll give you my older version of IMBA Trail Solutions.  It has the same info as the newer version just less pretty colored pictures.  Besides, what you learn at Oak Mtn, you can take to Tannehill and call yourself an experienced trail builder.  You can come out on a Saturday or Sunday (or both if you have the time.)  Ask for Mark Richman.  Thanks

  • Here are some links I saved while doing some research on trail building:

    www.americantrails.org/resources/trailbuilding/index.html

www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/rectrails/trailpub.htm  (This one has free publications you can order)

    www.albemarle.org/upload/images/forms_center/departments/community_development/forms/Greenways/Virginia_Greenways_&_Trail_Toolbox_Section04_6.pdf

    www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/fspubs/01232833/struct01.htm

    www.juneautrails.org/trails/trailbuilding.html

A couple of them cover trail building in wet areas, which is where we got the idea for building the recently completed turnpikes near the BMX track.
