On a beautiful Fall Sunday, riders young and old tackled the new singletrack and 670 feet of climbing per lap of the Trussville Sports Complex. Riders from all over Alabama and beyond came out for what was a memorable race. With the support of Bike Link, Cahaba Cycles, EZ Bike Products, Physician Sales & Services, Dockery Electric, Jim N Nick’s and Red Bull, BUMP was able to show off the fruits of our labor from adding the gravel packed switchbacks and rocky obstacles. All reports indicate the new course was fun and challenging.
Topping the standings for the Experts was Mike Hurley (Bob’s Bikes/Ivan Leonard), with a blistering time of 1:36:47 ( avg 24:12/lap),. Right on his heels was Jonathan Robbins (Cahaba Cycles) with a time of 1:39:44. On the ladie’s side, Lila Bowers took the top of the podium with a time of 2:05:49.
The Sport and Singlespeed classes offered up even more competition as Riley Spahn lead all category 2 racers with a 1:12:46 followed by Hardwick Gregg (1:13:36) and Scott Schlepmen (1:15:45).
The beginners also had their share of great finishes. Joseph Brew put out a 55:47 and Travis Grappo posted a 57:56.
Of course no BUMP race is complete with out the kids coming out and giving it their best. One day they will be the ones burning up the course. The traning wheel division easily took the award for the most stylish of bikes.
We hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed the course. Your participation ensures we can keep Trussville’s bike trails open and in good condition. Also a big thanks to our volunteers who gave up their time to make Dead Dog happen. We’ll see you next year.
